This week I came across a story about a woman who let her frustration take over her. Kelly Blazek started a Job Bank in Cleveland and was trying to help people, but a few individuals who used social media platform LinkedIn in a different way than her made her so angry that she began sending long angry letters at people. One of the letters was published and went viral, ruining her reputation as well as the Job Bank she had created.
Then later this week a car almost hit me just before an on-ramp to the highway when I was in their blind spot. I honked to let them know they were coming over on me which sparked a great deal of anger in the little electric car driver with the bicycle on the back. (Apparently he doesn’t believe in sharing the road.) He took the time to show me his middle finger, twice. Speeding around me to give me a dirty look and second viewing of his hand. Wow. Something seriously wrong is going on in the heart of this guy.
It all reminded of a verse in Galatians 5:22 that tells us of some beautiful character traits of God. These 9 traits can also be found in you and I when we are filled with the Holy Spirit. The verse says “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
So, what is coming out of you these days? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you. It shouldn’t be difficult to tell because you’ll see the fruit of His presence.
It also is helpful to remember to – Always be kinder than you feel.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Fruit of the Spirit and how you’ve seen them in your life:
